At Your Command: Neville Goddard (Study Notes) Ⅱ
I have recently decided to take the time to study and break down Neville Goddard’s work. As you may know, Neville didn’t always convey his messages in the typical ways we speak and write today due to the time period he was alive and sharing his work. With the apparent differences in communication styles from now to then, I found it necessary to break down his writing for my own better understanding of his teachings. I have felt the desire to share my own personal notes from this approach I have been pursuing, in hopes of helping anyone it may be of service to.
Although I believe Neville’s messages are pretty straightforward, there is always a level of interpretation at play with anything that may be subjective to the individual. If for any reason you disagree with my breakdown of his work, that is quite alright and understandable. My desire is not to convince anyone to agree with me, but rather to share my own interpretations and understanding is his brilliant work, with any who may find the desire to digest it. We all have a right to our own opinions and perspectives, just as I believe Neville would want it.
Below, you will find my study notes. I am studying from the Neville Collection book, which includes most, if not all, of his written work. So, when page numbers are specified, they might not be the same as yours, depending on which text you are reading from.
Enjoy my notes below. I hope they are able to serve you in some way.
“at your command” by neville goddard (study notes)
‣ “Man is ever out-picturing that which he is conscious of being. This is the truth that makes man free, for man is always self-imprisoned or self-freed.”
‣ out-picturing ➔ picturing = describing [someone or something] in a certain way; [to] form a mental image of ➔ out = through to the outside, revealed for made public ➔ ‘man is ever out-picturing’ = describing and/or forming a mental image of (visualizing/imagining) through to the outside (reality) and/or public (others) ➔ ‘that which he is conscious of being’ = what he (the individual, us, everyone) ➔ is conscious of being = aware of being, identifying with, saying ‘yes’ to, focusing on
‣ aka ‘man is ever out-picturing that which he is conscious of being’ = people are always pushing out, into our reality, what we are identifying with/focusing on/believing in through our consciousness
‣ why? how? because ➔ our consciousness (God, the God within all of us) = creates
‣ ‘this is the truth that makes man free, for man is always self imprisoned or self-freed’ ➔ why? how? ➔ because with our consciousness, awareness, identification, mental images = we create our reality
‣ “...and claim God as your awareness of being.”
‣ I and my father (God) = are one
‣ “I and my father are one, but my father is greater than I.”
‣ God is greater because He is ALL, but we are not separate from that ALL-ness
‣ (pg. 7) “Consciousness, being God, is as ‘father’. The thing that you are conscious of being is the ‘son’ bearing witness of his ‘father.’”
‣ consciousness = God = the Father
‣ what we are conscious of being = the ‘son’ ➔ ‘bearing witness’
= [to] show signs that something happened; [to] tell what you have seen; [to] prove something is true
‣ ‘the thing that you are conscious of being is the ‘son’ bearing witness of his father’ = what we are aware of [the son] (aka creating) is showing to be true through (being made proven/seen) through consciousness (God, the Father) (aka creation)
‣ “It is like a conceiver and its conceptions. The conceiver is ever greater than his conceptions yet ever remains one with his conception. For instance; before you are conscious of being man, you are first conscious of being. Then you become conscious of being man. Yet, you remain as conceiver, greater than your conception–man.”
‣ conceiver = someone who creates new things; [to] form and bring forth something; [to] become pregnant with ➔ conception = an idea of what something or someone is like; the process of [a] new life being created; understanding; plan or intention
‣ conceiver = [a] creator ➔ conception = [the] expression; idea; understanding; creation; perception
‣ we, as conceivers [creators], are one with our conceptions [ideas, thoughts, perceptions] but are greater than them ➔ how? why? because ➔ we are constantly evolving, individualistic + not tied down to any certain conception [unless we choose to be] (aka we have the power over any conceptions, making us greater, but not apart, since it is all within us, nothing is separate)
‣ ‘before you are conscious of being man, you are first conscious of being’ ➔ our first conception [idea, thought, perception] = is ‘being’ = being alive + aware = when we are first born, we only are conscious of us being [alive], no identity, no knowledge, just awareness of our surroundings + being-ness in our world ➔ we just are
‣ ‘then you become conscious of being man’ ➔ making us the conceiver (creator) of the ‘awareness of the man (life) that we are’
‣ ‘yet, you remain as conceiver, greater than your conception–man’ ➔ we stay/remain as the conceiver(creator) of the concept (idea, perception, expression) that we are man ➔ but bigger than it (the conception) since we conceived (created) it through our consciousness (awareness) which is = God
‣ “If any man should ever come, saying, ‘Look here or look there,’ believe them not, for the kingdom of God is within you.”
‣ the kingdom of heaven is within us, God is within us
‣ “He went unto his father,” it is telling you that he rose in consciousness to the point where he was just conscious of being, thus transcending the limitations of his present conception of himself, called ‘Jesus’.”
‣ Father = God = consciousness = conscious of being ➔ ‘thus transcending the limitations of his present conception of Himself’ ➔ he rose above, as the conceiver of his conception ➔ ‘his conception’ = his present self, Jesus ➔ and we are greater than our conceptions ➔ so he was able to rise above (transcend) His present conception (current concept, perception, idea of self) + its limitations
‣ ‘go unto the Father’ = to go within, into your consciousness (become aware) to the Kingdom of Heaven, and transcend [limitations] through and with the awareness that you are already one with God (aka whole, complete, limitless within)
‣ “In the awareness of being all things are possible; he said, “You shall decree a thing and it shall come to pass.” This is his decreeing– rising in consciousness to the naturalness of being the thing desired.”
‣ ‘in the awareness of being all things are possible’ ➔ awareness of being = consciousness + God = consciousness + with God, all things are possible
‣ ‘this is his decreeing–rising in consciousness to the naturalness of being the thing desired’ ➔ decreeing = to command/instruct ➔ how to decree properly? ➔ rise in consciousness ➔ rising = be restored to life; increasing upward; advancing ➔ consciousness = God + God = life ➔ naturalness = of or in agreement with the character or makeup of, or circumstances surrounded, someone or something; coming instinctively to a person; innate; relaxed; occurring as a matter of course and without debate ; inevitable ➔ ‘being the thing desired’ ➔ identifying with/focusing on/being one with/observing
‣ ‘this is his decreeing–rising in consciousness to the naturalness of being the thing desired’ = connecting to God (which is within) through (heightened) awareness + rising to (restoring to life) the (being/awareness) of the character or makeup (relaxed, innate) of being (awareness, identification) the thing desired
